Her lineage is rumored to be of desert vagabonds who, many many years ago, performed a service for the rulers of another city and were granted rank and title. They quickly proved to be very good at politics and now, many generations later, live in Tyr. Palma was raised primarily by her father, as her mother died of illness when Palma was very young. Her father is a professor of history at the University, and he raised his daughter with a healthy interest in history and academic study. However, it was his tales of a wild youth spent exploring ruins that really caught her attention. She spent her youth studying with not only her father, but a number of other tutors in the fields of archaeology and psionics. Now at the age of 25, she is a well-travelled ruin explorer in her own right. Her father allows it, assuming it will be good training for her to take over the household when he dies. Profile: Palma is generally good-natured. She can be somewhat sarcastic, but she is gracious about criticism and gets as good as she gives. She understands her limitations and does not presume to do more than she is capable of doing. This doesn't mean that she won't go the extra mile if need be, but she is keenly aware that for certain tasks, certain skills are needed, and that she can't do everything. On the other hand, that means she is an acute perfectionist; she demands more of herself than is reasonable because she understands others are often counting on her as she is counting on them. She is thankfully capable enough so that she is usually satisfied with her performance, but even the slightest slipup can drive her nuts with distraction. Even moreso, her fear of failure means that in the clutch, if she screws up, she will go completely catatonic with depression, often simply slumping to the ground and weeping in frustration and self-pity. Although friendly and open, Palma is very competitive and can get a little nasty with someone she views as a rival. She is obsessed with relic-hunting, often getting restless during idle downtime; for her, it's more than a hobby. It's a way of life. She hopes that, in her travels, she will eventually find a powerful artifact that will make life better for all of Athas, and realizes that to complete that goal, she has to be the absolute best. Not just the best she can be, but the best there is. Despite being nobility, Palma is a social egalitarian; status means less to her than individual achievement and merit. She thus refused her father's offer of financial help or a cordon of assistants, and instead travels only on her skills and what she can earn. She is not above lying but often finds that creative honesty is much more effective, and she is always upfront with companions. She puts great faith in the bond that risking one's life together with people creates. Thusly, people who lie to her when her life is on the line without some VERY good reasons earn her eternal ire.
