Nobody is really sure *where* he's from, in fact, least of all Quint. His earliest memories are of seeing the inside of a barrel and hearing his own wailing, and then blackness. The truth is that the child, wearing nothing but a long white tunic, was inside a floating barrel found on a stormy night off the coast of the Broken Island. The barrel was found by the ship of a pair of wealthy researchers who were returning home after being steered away from studying the island by the Imperial Navy, the storm clouds forcing their ship low toward the sea. Quint continues to have nightmares of that night ever since, and has always been very skittish and jumpy in tight places. Unable to have children of their own, the wealthy and somewhat eccentric parents took the child home with them to raise as their own. His ears came to a mild but definite point, and his hair was originally blonde, but after his first haircut it grew in a very vibrant shade of blue that resisted any attempt to dye or change it. Concerned but also terribly excited, his parents doted on him, but also in some respects treated Quint like a test subject. Other than his parents' often odd questions and extended absences, Quint had all he could ever want in their home, and grew up fairly well-adjusted but with only adults for friends, as the St. Marion family lived on their own atoll near Hunter's Island. He learned the arts of his father: engineering, metalworking, and other mechanical trades, but also the arts of his mother, who had the talents of a Natural Mage. While he took well enough to his father's training, it was his with his mother that he really shone. Occasionally he could learn a spell of hers simply by seeing it cast. He mastered a simple healing spell simply by having it cast on him, duplicating it perfectly, much to his mother's astonishment. However, at age 17 he began to chafe under his parents' watchful eye and resent their treatment, and sadly like many scientists and researchers the St. Marions had no idea how they were affecting their son. Or at least they didn't until they found his note wishing them thanks for saving him and raising him, and that once he found the answers to his own past, he would return to share them. Hopping into a small ship, he managed to make his way to Hunter's Island, where he took the name Quint Merriweather and started upon the Hunter's path which he has followed ever since. Now at the age of 20, his unique combination of technical knowhow and magical skills have made him much in demand. What he doesn't know is that the Empire tracked down the St. Marion's and interrogated them for some other purpose, and discovered their research about their own 'son'. They were captured and imprisoned for their trouble, and now the Empire is looking to find the person described in their notes for "questioning". Appearance: Quint is actually fairly short, not much taller than 5'4". In order to disguise himself, he covers his hair in a scarf he keeps wound about his head, but he makes no attempt to disguise the point of his ears. He generally wears a black tank top and cargo shorts with a number of pockets.
