-----[ Personal ]--------------------------------------------------------- E-mail: chunli@chaoticblue.com Name: Todd Harper Age: 27 (11/10/1978) Referal: I'm a player at MotM currently (Frei/Karin, formerly Rose). -------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Again, this initial stuff? Taken verbatim from my previous apps, as none of it's changed since.) [ Prior Experience ] I've been a MU*er in various forms since 1996 or so, at first on MUXes and MUSHes (the very first a Sailor Moon MUX that went by a large variety of names; I played an original character and Sailor Neptune) and then later on, on a variety of anime-related MUCKs. A short list I can construct from my mostly spotty memory reads as follows: ElseMUCK: Himemiya Anshi, Kishuu Arashi RanmaMUCK: Sylphiel Nels Rada, Himemiya Anshi (at one point) Distant Shores: Urd OldeMUCK: Melissa (Parasite Eve), Liza (SaGa Frontier), Naga the Serpent PhoenixMUCK: At various stages, Naga the White Serpent, Hugo (Suikoden 3), Lisa Hatsufist (FF:U), probably some others long forgotten I also had a *lot* of characters on the last two incarnations of Children of the Atom MUX, but sadly my memory over which ones is less than perfect; only Asa (an OC; I actually said FC in my Karin app, which is wrong) stands out, because I have logs. Over the past three years or so I've been taking a break from MU* and instead playing in BESM and Tri-Stat (and two Buffy Unisystem) games with friends on IRC; some dissatisfaction with them has led me back to the fold, as it were. Of course, in the tabletop RP sense I've been at it since I was 12-13, so I'm well experienced there. [ Game Knowledge ] On the Capcom side, I am quite familiar with everything presented, even Rival Schools/Project Justice (I am a bit of a dork about that series). On the SNK side not so much; I'm alright with KoF from '98 to '03 but the older games I know only to the extent that they've shown up in KoF. [ Consent ] Um. Yes! [ Sample Profile ] Company: Capcom (OC) Full Name: Unknown Gender: Female Team: Independent Affiliation: Charlie's Vigilantes Primary Style: Tai Chi Profile text: No changes requested. [ Background ] The beginning of Chun-li's life is probably the only part of it that could be called 'normal' rather than 'extraordinary' or 'tragic'. She was born in southern China as the only child of a police inspector and a housewife and grew up near the border with then-British-controlled Hong Kong. She was perhaps the best child the family could hope for: intelligent, athletic, independent, but not so precocious she caused trouble. Her relationship with her father was very close, perhaps because young Chun-li was a bit of a tomboy. Although it didn't spiral out of control into a scary Elektra complex sort of affair, it was obvious to everyone around the family that Chun-li was daddy's girl. She waited with baited breath for her father -- who, having been scouted by the Hong Kong police department to work for them as a special investigator, did a lot of travelling and taking cases away from home -- to return after every one of his cases, asking him to describe them in detail and listening with rapture as he went through the ins and outs of policework. Her mother, aware that many young girls often had poor relationships with their fathers, encouraged this. She even enrolled young Chun-li in acrobatics and tai chi classes to help direct her energy between visits with her father. Even at a very young age, Chun-li displayed an acute talent for both martial arts and movement, being particularly nimble and able to grasp even complex maneuvers with relative ease. However, her mother also wanted the girl to be a well-rounded individual, but was pleased to see Chun-li excel at everything she tried, including her schoolwork and learning to play the Chinese fiddle (though in that case, the fact that her daddy loved to hear her play when he returned from work was no small motivator). Whenever she lacked talent, Chun-li more than made up the gap with drive. She was gifted unnaturally, to be certain, but it would never carry her; always, always behind her success was a mountain of hard work and discipline, a desire to achieve. Noticing her inclination to the martial arts, Chun-li's father began to give her further instruction when they spent time together, moving their frequent discussions about his policework to something they did while practicing forms. From her father, the young girl learned things you don't normally pick up in a local dojo; instead of form, something she had already begun to master, Chun-li picked up how to actually fight from her father, a martial artist of no lean ability himself. How to read opponents, how to know your own body... while she continued to excel at the neighborhood's school, it was with her father that Chun-li's exceptional fighting talent began to manifest. He even introduced her to the owner of a local restaurant, a man named Gen, who took over Chun-li's training while her father was away. She did not know how her father knew the man, nor that Gen was a legendary assassin who had since left the Chinese underworld in an attempt to find a peaceful end through a single glorious battle. What she did know, however, was that Gen treated her as if she were his own, and the young girl considered him more of a favored uncle than simply a man her father knew. Under Gen's tutelage Chun-li's ability continued to increase, as she incorporated and adapted some of Gen's techniques and Chinese kempo with her own knowledge of Tai Chi Chuan. More to the point, she began to work with and understand more esoteric fighting concepts, such as the elusive energy known as 'chi', though it would be many more years before she would manifest this energy visibly. Still, Gen taught her how that energy flows through the body even in invisible ways. As her 17th birthday approached, Chun-li had to decide where to spend her life and her energy. Unsurprisingly, she chose to enter the local police force as a rookie. much as her father had done in his youth. Her perceptiveness and intelligence -- not to mention her superlative fighting ability -- made her one of southern China's most distinguished police academy students. In particular, she took to target shooting with what can only be called preternatural abandon, frequently placing in the top of her class. It was not long before she was moved into a local precinct not far from her hometown. Serving with diligence and pride, she helped to clean up Triad activity in southeastern China and near the border with Hong Kong. In particular, she was known for her skill at drug busts, putting the kibosh on a number of smuggling and drug fabricating operations in the area. While she did not know it, this was one of her very first run-ins with an organization that would come to be her lifelong nemesis: Shadaloo. Vega's organization -- still, at this stage, somewhat nascent -- had begun to throw feelers into the Hong Kong underworld, hoping to gain more of a foothold in Southeast Asia. Chun-li, in her own way, helped to keep them out of mainland China... but, ironically enough, turned more of their attention toward Hong Kong. What Chun-li's father had not told his daughter is that while working in Hong Kong he was approached by the ICPO, who were hoping to start combatting the increasingly unnerving acts of international crime orgs such as Shadaloo and 'R' by creating a special force of investigators. His sense of justice one of the things he shared with his daughter, Chun-li's father accepted readily and began the steady work of tracing Shadaloo's growth out of Thailand and into the continent. However, with their feelers into the mainland stymied by the Chinese police, Shadaloo redoubled its efforts in Hong Kong... and it was clear that if they wanted to get anywhere, the Special Inspector would have to die. Infiltrating agents into the ICPO itself, Shadaloo got its men into the Special Narcotics Office team and plotted where Chun-li's father would be next. Cornering him in a fake bust, the moles arranged the death of the special inspector and a handful of Hong Kong police, then covered up the paper trail connecting the ICPO. With no bodies and no evidence, Chun-li's father was considered MIA and presumed dead. It was not yet two days later that Chun-li herself was in Hong Kong, having resigned her commission with the Chinese prefectural police and beginning an investigation on her own into her father's disappearance. Mastering her fear and apprehension, the girl -- now 19 -- kept hope that her father was alive as her driving force, tearing through Hong Kong triads in a messy but effective bit of information gathering. This caught the attention of Interpol's special investigations office, who inadvertently met Chun-li as she got to an informant 2 hours before they could... and found her standing over his unconscious body. Bringing her back to headquarters, the head inspector noted her service record and introduced himself, explaining about her father's special role... and then offering Chun-li a place in the ICPO right then and there at the unheard-of age of 19. She accepted instantly. With Shadaloo's plants in the office complacent and not watchful, her entry into the force went unnoticed. Knowing that her drive would not allow her to do anything but, the heads of the special investigator's office put Chun-li on the case of her missing father, and the Shadaloo drug trafficking operations in southeastern Asia. Finding to her distinct horror that the men in these reports were familiar names from her own past work, Chun-li headed back into China to check with her contacts... not the least of which was her father's old friend Gen, who was grieved to hear the news she had to share. Tarrying in the town to visit her ailing mother, Chun-li split her time between doing significant research into Shadaloo's activities, caring for her mother, and continuing her training under Gen, who revealed his past to her and began to teach her more lethal techniques. While this news troubled Chun-li, she knew in her heart that Gen was a man who, if not repentant, was at least disinclined to use his prodigious skills to harm innocents. For her, that was enough. She also met Gen's two young wards, Yun and Yang, and for a while the four trained together. However, her work took Chun-li away from home before long. Using what she learned from her contacts with the Chinese police, as well as more shady information courtesy of Gen, Chun-li headed back into Hong Kong to compare notes with the ICPO. Shadaloo's operations were much bigger than drug runs, she had discovered; they had their fingers in corporate fraud, money laundering, extortion, assassination, political corruption, arms dealing... anything and everything. Determined to root out the tendrils of the organization -- and absolutely convinced that, by investigating Shadaloo, she would find the truth about her father -- Chun-li prepared a detailed report to the ICPO's special investigations office. However, her investigation had caught the eye of Shadaloo itself, thanks to Chun-li's zeal. The moles with Interpol kicked back into action and steadily began to take over the special investigations office. Soon they controlled most of the bureaucracy, leaving only a handful of dedicated individuals whose hands were too bound with red tape to do anything. While they were sympathetic to Chun-li's plight, her attempts to get Interpol to act on the information she had were going nowhere, fast. Desperate to do something before the trail grew too cold, Chun-li applied for extended leave and began to dig through contacts in the legal world, hoping to find someone who would be willing to help her. Almost by accident, she found one in the form of Air Force Commander Charlie Nash. Introduced to him by a contact in Seattle, Chun-li travelled to America to find him, only to discover that Com. Nash has resigned his commission and left for California. Finally tracking him down in Los Angeles, the two compared notes and discovered their aims were more alike than they could have hoped. Combining Chun-li's police legwork with more behind-the-scenes information Charlie had collected before leaving the military, the two gathered a like-minded band of individuals and set out to pursue the figure looming behind the Shadaloo threat: a man known only as 'Vega'. Chun-li heads to Asia to look on her home turf; Charlie and his friend Lieutenant Guile decide to look up old military contacts in the Pacific Rim and join her later. It is this tiny headstart that gives Chun-li time to find Shadaloo's base of operations in Thailand and infiltrate it after contacting Charlie (who had become separated from Guile), who was already close on Chun-li's heels. Stealing into the base, she combined stealth with some well-timed knockout kicks to make her way to a launching pad... where Vega was about to make his exit. Confronting the man she had referred to as "Lord Vega", Chun-li made a valiant showing, displaying her martial prowess to its fullest. However, she was naturally unable to overcome Vega and his Psycho Power. Leaving Chun-li badly hurt, the Shadaloo leader simply laughed and ascended into his waiting VTOL, giving the investigator one final shot: that her fighting style reminded him very much of a man he once killed for sport, because he too was too nosy. The last thougt she had, before losing consciousness, was the realization that her father was probably dead... killed by the hands of Lord Vega. When she awoke, it was in a hospital in Hong Kong. Having been rescued by one of Charlie's men, she was safe... but it was if a hollow place had been etched right into her heart. She swore then and there that nothing would stop her from bringing down both Shadaloo and Vega, even if she had to abandon the ICPO to get the job done. Praying that Vega had merely been trying to distract her, Chun-li kept hope alive that someday she would see her father again... but deep inside, it was becoming more and more clear that he was, with all likelihood, lost to her forever. Leaving the hospital later that week, she found Charlie incommunicado and all traces of Vega lost, the Air Force commander having gone deep underground after a loss to Vega, who had temporarily retreated himself to recover after being defeated by the mysterious Rose. Left to her own devices, Chun-li once again visited her home, in time to see her mother on her last legs, having been struck with grief after the disappearance of her husband. The eventual sad passing of Chun-li's mother only steeled her resolve, the investigator having been unable to tell her mother about her father's potential fate, and instead promising that someday, the three of them would be together again. Hoping to see Gen one last time, she visited the Genhanten only to find the assassin missing and Yun and Yang in charge. Taking her leave, Chun-li left for Japan... specifically, Southtown. Still left with no way to get in touch with Charlie, Chun-li devoted herself to her training, increasing her already prodigious fighting skills by mastering her internal energy and developing new techniques that she hoped could begin to fight the mysterious energy she had seen Vega use against her: the strange and deadly Psycho Power. It is in Southtown that Chun-li became more acquainted with the street fighting circuit, dabbling in it a bit herself... and finding that it was an excellent way to keep tabs on criminal activity. Making Southtown her new base of operations, Chun-li put her newfound fighting skills to the test, battling many qualified fighters and becoming friends with many, including the Ansatsuken-using trio of Ryu, Ken, and Sakura Kasugano. Chun-li, too, became more well-known on the world fighting stage, and even idolized by some (including fellow Chinese martial artist Li Xiangfei). Although she continued her work as an independent investigator looking into and investigating the actions of Shadaloo, for a while Chun-li realized that she had never taken any time to grieve for herself. In fact, she had gone non-stop from the second she awoke in the hospital... and while she was determined to discover her father's fate and fight the evils of Vega, she also knew that she was heading for disaster if she let that trend continue. Thus, she took some time for herself, cutting back a bit on her "police" work and instead focusing on developing her personal relationships, then spending some time away from Southtown in order to re-center herself. It is only recently that she has returned, and amid a flurry of activity. Reunited with Charlie, she stepped up her involvement with the Vigilantes while he took a sabbatical, even forging a temporary truce with the Ikari Warriors mercenary group. Chun-li also encountered the mysterious fortune teller known as Rose, and through her advice came closer to realizing her goals with Shadaloo, even coming so far as to win a victory over Vega in single combat (even if said victory was more transient than decisive). What she found was a new reserve of self-confidence, knowledge, and understanding that she is not alone in her fight. Which is good, for now not only Vega, but other international crime lords such as Rugal Bernstein have made their appearance on the world stage... and his temporary alliance with Vega has only made it that much more imperative that Chun-li step up her efforts. Thus it is back to Southtown she comes, rejuvenated and reinforced. [ Personality ] [ Physical Characteristics ] There is nothing particularly exceptional about Chun-li, comparative to other fighters. She is somewhat thickly built for a woman in her early 20's, but this is mostly attributable to her being in excellent shape. Despite frequent fan nods to her thunder thighs, the measurements don't particularly support this (though Chun-li does have well-muscled legs, as one might expect from someone whose style focuses on kicking techniques). [ Sample Pose ] [ Stats, etc. ] N/A, I believe, since Chun-li is an FC. [ Fighting style ] Though strictly labelled as "Tai Chi", Chun-li's style actually encompasses a variety of Chinese martial arts, drawing on kung fu, Gen's version of Ansatsuken, and kempo as well as the more fluid movements of tai chi. This is mostly because she learned tai chi for form as a child, but as she began to learn from other teachers (her father, Gen, police academy and Interpol training) their more utilitarian styles came to be incorporated into what Chun-li already knew.
